OC Immigrant Community Rally To Demand Congress Pass a Clean Dream Act and TPS Protections

Santa Ana, CA – On Thursday, January 18th, Resilience Orange County, immigrant rights advocates and community members will hold a march and rally to continue to put pressure on Congress to pass an immigration bill that includes a path to legalization to DACA eligible undocumented immigrants and a permanent solution for TPS holders.

A bipartisan group of U.S. Senators is expected to reveal a bill today that would include a DACA fix along with funding for border security, an end to the Diversity Visa Lottery and changes to family-based migration. As it stands, the bill is a compromise that further criminalizes immigrant communities and potentially exclude TPS holders to appease immigration hardliners in the Senate. Also, Senate Republicans are refusing to allow this immigration bill to be attached to a must pass government spending bill, if a Continuing Resolution is not passed in Congress by Friday then the government will shut down. Republicans need Senate Democrat votes to pass the spending bill.

We call on Senate Democrats to use their leverage and vote no on any spending bill that does not include a Clean Dream Act, which means legalization for undocumented youth and TPS holders, no funding for a border wall and no to attacks to family-based migration. They must hold the line and have the courage to stand up for our immigrant communities.
